George C. Watkins was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky, on 1815 November 25. Around 1821, he moved with his father, Isaac Watkins, to Arkansas. Later, he graduated from the law school at Litchfield, Connecticut, and returned to Little Rock in 1837. Here, Watkins became partners with Chester Ashley and, later, James M. Curran.
