Mary Elizabeth Parker was the daughter of Edward W. Parker, a banker in Little Rock in the nineteenth century and co-founder of a charity hospital, now St. Vincent's Infirmary Medical Center. Mary was born on April 16, 1867. At two years of age her parents divorced and her father was awarded custody. After graduating from Swarthmore Junior College, she returned to Little Rock in 1885. In 1892 she married James Lawson Reid. They had two daughters, Edwina and Louise. She kept the family home at 118 Broadway until 1924, when she moved to California for good. Her husband and father both died in 1908 leaving her sole heir to Parker, Reid and Company, which merged with Union Trust Company in 1910 when she sold it. She died on February 2, 1938.
