Biographical Note

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded on October 11, 1890, and incorporated under the laws of the District of Columbia on June 4, 1891. In 1896, the organization was incorporated by an Act of the United States Congress. Membership is open to women over the age of eighteen who can prove direct descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American Independence. The first Arkansas chapter of the DAR was organized in Little Rock on December 19, 1893. There are now forty-nine chapters in Arkansas.
