Biographical Note

The Little Rock 150th Celebration was a summer long, planned celebration of Little Rock's 150th year as the Capital of Arkansas. The celebration's planning and implementation was directed by Charles Rixse, the Executive Director of the Little Rock 150th Capital City Anniversary Celebration, Incorporated. It was organized in November 1970, to plan a series of events to commemorate this 150th anniversary. The Celebration was based on the legislative act moving the seat of government from Arkansas Post to Little Rock in June 1821. The activities, which culminated during the week of June 8-13, 1971, included parades, musical events, presentations, contests, and sports events. The dates of this collection begin with October 1970 when the first steps were taken to charter the Corporation and end with the administrative and financial phase out in February 1972.
