Biographical Note

Evert Eugene Mapes was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on April 14, 1917, the son of Leo Evert and Ruth Brown Mapes. Mapes had a lifelong interest in history, genealogy, and writing. He authored five books on Mapes family history. He compiled the book Calendar in America, which coverts dates from the Gregorian calendar to the corresponding dates on the Julian calendar, to assist himself in his own genealogical research. He also wrote a series of tax articles for the Arkansas Gazette in 1955-56, under the pen name U. R. Caught. Evert Eugene Mapes died in Little Rock, Arkansas, on October 13, 1983.
