This collection consists of a letter written by Byron Cone while he was serving with the 20th Iowa Infantry.


Biographical Note

Byron Cone was born in Connecticut, in December 1831, the son of Norris and Ann Cone. The family relocated to Linn County, Iowa, in about 1840. Byron enlisted in Company F of the 20th Iowa Infantry on August 21, 1862. He was mustered out due to disability on February 9, 1863. He returned to Iowa, where he worked as a lather. He died on October 9, 1909.
