This collection consists of a photocopy and transcription of a letter written by William D. McCord while serving with the 37th Illinois Infantry.


Biographical Note

William D. McCord was born in Illinois, in 1839. As a young man he worked as a farm hand in Woodford County, where he became active in forming a Presbyterian congregation. He enlisted in Company E of the 37th Illinois Infantry on September 20, 1861. He mustered out on September 29, 1864, and returned to Woodward County. He died ca. 1890.
