This collection consists of a diary, pages from the family scrapbook, and genealogical materials related to the Batchelor family of Little Rock, Arkansas.

The diary in this collection belonged to Frances Tucker Batchelor. Entries begin January 1, 1921, when Frances was a graduate student at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and ends shortly before her death when she was in residence at Agnes Memorial Sanatorium for Tuberculosis in Denver, Colorado.


Biographical Note

The Batchelors were self-sufficient farmers who owned their own small farm. John Richard Batchelor was born May 18, 1891, at Orion, Arkansas. He was the son of George Richard Batchelor and Catherine Ryan. John Richard Batchelor served in the army during World War I. He died July 10, 1948, at Hot Springs, Arkansas. Frances Tucker Batchelor was born November 22, 1893, at Clover Bend, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Captain Francis William Tucker and Helen M. Wilkins. She married John Richard Batchelor in Jefferson County, Arkansas. Frances achieved a graduate degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and later taught Latin at Altheimer, Arkansas. She died of tuberculosis on May 18, 1924, at Little Rock, Arkansas. Frances Tucker Batchelor and John Richard Batchelor lived at the Tucker House located at 2320 Louisiana Avenue in Little Rock, Arkansas. They had a son, George William Tucker Batchelor, who was born August 6, 1922, at Little Rock, Arkansas. George William Tucker Batchelor served in the Air Force during World War II. He died May 15, 1992.
