This collecton contains the original, a photocopy and a transcription of a letter written by Jasper Lane of the 12th Kansas Infantry while the unit was stationed at Fort Smith, Arkansas.


Biographical Note

Jasper Lane's family was originally from Indiana. They were living in Ottumwa, Coffey County, Kansas, when Jasper enlisted in Company F of the 12th Kansas Infantry. He served through the end of the war and was mustered out with the regiment on June 3, 1865, at Little Rock, Arkansas.
