This collection consists of one letter written by Albert W. Allen while he served with the 42nd Ohio Infantry.


Biographical Note

Albert W. Allen was born in Ohio, in 1840, the son of William and Harriet Allen. He enlisted on September 9, 1861, in Company I of the 42nd Ohio Infantry and was mustered out with the company on December 2, 1864. After he married, his family lived briefly in Iowa, before returning to Madison County, Ohio, where he opened a mercantile store. He died November 12, 1924.
