This collection consists of one letter written by Henry Brevoort while he served on the staff of General Osterhaus.


Biographical Note

Henry Brevoort enlisted May 27, 1861, in the 83rd New York Infantry. In September 1861, he was discharged from the 83rd to accept a promotion to 1st lieutenant in the 4th Missouri Cavalry. At the time this letter was written, he was serving on detached duty as aide de camp to General Peter J. Osterhaus. He resigned in July 1863, due to ill health and returned to New York.
