This collection consists of one letter written by Fred S. Steubing to his brother, while in the military hospital at Princeton, Arkansas.


Biographical Note

Fred Steubing was born in Prussia on October 12, 1841. His family emigrated in 1843, and settled in Texas. He joined the 16th Texas Infantry on May 21, 1862, and served through May 1865, when the unit disbanded. After the war he returned to Texas, where he worked as a wheelwright and a farmer. In 1870, he married Mary Jane Hopkins. He died in Bastrop County, Texas, July 28, 1926.
