This collection consists of one letter written by William O. Lee while he served with the 1st Iowa Cavalry.


Biographical Note

William O. Lee was born in New York, in 1836, the son of William D. and Eliza Lee. The family moved to Madison County, Iowa, ca. 1855. William enlisted in Company D of the 1st Iowa Cavalry on June 13, 1861, and served until September 9, 1864. He lived in central Iowa for many years after the war, eventually moving to Pueblo, Colorado. He died there on June 17, 1917.
