This collection consists of one letter written by Benjamin Fullager while he was serving with the Third Wisconsin Calvary, which took part in the capture of Van Buren, Arkansas.


Biographical Note

Benjamin Fullager was born in England in 1835, and immigrated to New York with his family in 1841. He enlisted at Sparta, Wisconsin, on October 21, 1861, for duty as a wagoner in Company A of the Third Wisconsin Cavalry. He was promoted to quartermaster sergeant on October 20, 1862. Shortly before the close of the war he was promoted to the rank of captain and transferred to Company K of the unit. Following the war, Fullager married Eleanor Bridgland Cuckoro and moved to Yates County, New York, where he became a successful farmer. He died November 29, 1919.
