This collection consists of a typed transcription of four letters and the original of one of the letters, all written by Prentice Cyrus Barrows of the 29th Iowa Infantry Regiment while serving in Arkansas.


Biographical Note

Prentice C. Barrows was born in New York, October 24, 1838. He was living in Fontanelle, Iowa, in August 1862, when he enlisted in the 29th Iowa Infantry regiment. He was mustered out on August 10, 1865, in New Orleans. After the war, Barrows lived in Dallas County, Iowa, where he operated a grocery store. He married in 1872, and died January 20, 1912.
