Scope and Contents

This collection contains South Bend Plantation and 1927 flood materials. It is a variety of materials including newspaper clippings, personal letters, photographs, and two publications. The material contains photographs of Katherine Watson and family, an in-depth look into the South Bend Plantation, and original photographs and experiences of the 1927 flood.

The first part of the collection is materials directly relating to Katherine Watson and her family. This includes a history of South Bend, personal family photos, and personal letters recounting their experiences in the 1927 flood. The last part of the collection is various materials relating to the 1927 flood.


Biographical Note

Katherine Watson was an Arkansan who lived in Gould with her niece Bernice Boggs and her husband Philip Boggs along with her great niece Cherry Boggs Harkey in her later years. She was born around 1876, and her death date is unknown. It is known that she was living with the Boggs' during the 1927 flood and during the 1930 census.
