Scope and Contents

The Little Rock Departmental Club Records contain information about the officers and members of the Club as well as information about club meetings and fund-raising events. The bulk of the material consists of scrapbooks. There are also several binders containing information about club meetings. Scrapbooks and binders usually cover specific years.

Biographical Note

The Junior Club, precursor to the Little Rock Departmental Club, was organized in 1933, by a group of young women who had been invited by senior members of the Little Rock Federation of Women's Clubs to establish an organization for departmentalized club work and community co-operation. Six years later, the Junior Club assumed senior club status with the federation and adopted its present name. The Club's most notable philanthropic work has been a scholarship fund that, each year, provides benefits for several nursing students at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The scholarship fund was established in 1955. In the Club's early years, their philanthropy aided organizations such as the Elizabeth Mitchell Home, Arkansas Children's Colony and Easter Seals.
