Biographical Note

In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, William T. Davis acquired a large amount of real estate in Columbia and Lafayette Counties. The real estate holdings were in and near the town of Buckner. Some of the Davis holdings were later transferred to his children, and some were sold to other buyers, but he retained a considerable amount of property until his death, around 1920. In 1939, Pearl Davis Bratcher, a granddaughter of William T. Davis, retained attorney J. F. Quillin, of Mena, to find out if she had inherited any property or mineral rights from her grandfather. No will was found. Quillin hired Lafayette County Abstract Company in Lewisville, to provide a "take-off" of all lands owned or conveyed by William T. Davis or William T. Davis Company. The result was abstracts of numerous properties, covering a time period from 1872-1938.
