Scope and Contents

This small collection contains the memoirs of Thomas C. Paty Sr., written from 1972 until near his death in 1982, and a photograph of his father, Joseph Glenn Paty.

Robert E. Paty, son of Thomas C. Paty Sr., transcribed the memoirs after his father's death. The memoirs give a great deal of information about everyday life in the early-and mid-twentieth century. Paty lived in several locations in the state, including Little Rock, small towns, and rural areas, before moving to Arizona.

Biographical Note

Thomas C. Paty Sr. was born June 22, 1893, in rural Saline County, the son of Joseph Glenn Paty and Maude Lee Alley Paty. In the late 1890s, Joseph Paty moved his family to the outskirts of Little Rock and started the J. G. Paty Dairy, one of several early dairies in Little Rock. On June 28, 1925, Thomas Paty married Livvie D. Moss of Gurdon. To this marriage were born seven children. In 1944, after a stay at the Booneville Tuberculosis Sanatorium, Paty moved to Phoenix, Arizona. After finding work as a bookkeeper, he brought his family to Arizona, where they lived for the rest of Paty's life. Thomas Paty died on August 6, 1982.
