Biographical Note

William H. Masterson was born in Illinois, in 1843, to Charles and Phebe Masterson. He worked on his family's farm in Menard County. He first enlisted in the 10th Illinois Cavalry on November 25, 1861, and re-enlisted on December 12, 1863.
