Biographical Information

The Women's Auxiliary of the Children's Convalescent Center of Arkansas was formed in October 1947. Initially calling themselves the Auxiliary for the Jacksonville Crippled Children's Home, they met monthly until they voted to disband in December 1949. Their goals included birthday, Easter, and Christmas celebrations for the children of the Convalescent Center in Jacksonville, as well as gathering or sewing supplies (including clothing, curtains, and chair covers) for the facility and Christmas gifts for the children. In 1949, they sought donations from organizations around the state for their mission, but evidently were not satisfied with their rate of success. Their final minutes record their belief that "there are other, larger groups which can do more beneficial and efficient work than we can."
