The earliest settlers to the area that became Bayou Meto township arrived in 1820. The township was officially created in 1840, taking its name from a nearby body of water, and was the site of a Civil War battle in 1863.

Julia G. Besancon Alford researched and wrote on the history of Bayou Meto while taking a seminar in Arkansas history at UALR. The research represented in this collection was also used for a presentation to the Pulaski County Historical Society at their November 1990 meeting.
