Biographical Information

On May 18, 1846, the United States declared war on Mexico over the location of the boundary between Texas and Mexico. In Alabama, Alexander Corbin Pickett, a lawyer born around 1823 in Virginia, joined the 1st Regiment of Alabama Volunteers. Pickett returned from the war in the summer of 1847.

In the late 1850s, Pickett moved to Arkansas and settled in Jackson County. He continued to work as a lawyer until 1861.

After Union forces fired on Fort Sumter, Pickett organized and was elected captain of the "Jackson Guards," which was shortly after mustered in as the 1st Arkansas Infantry, CSA. In December 1862, he was transferred and promoted to colonel of the 10th Missouri Infantry, CSA.

After the war, Pickett returned to Arkansas and resumed his law practice. He died in Augusta in 1883.
