Scope and Contents

This collection consists of family photographs, with other items including a scrapbook of cards and postcards, a bible, and newspaper clippings. Most of the photographs are unidentified, but some names and dates are listed, as well as a few locations. Most, if not all, of the photographs are believed to have been taken by Irene's mother, Grace Chambers Hillman. Some photographs remain in family albums of the Hillman, Ogle, and Chambers families. Two of the albums were arranged by Irene's grandparents Joe Chambers and Sarah E. Ogle.

Biographical Note

Irene Florence Hillman was born October 6, 1906, near Almyra, Arkansas. Her parents, Fred Eugene and Florence Grace Chambers Hillman, divorced when she was quite young. Miss Hillman was one of five graduates, and class valedictorian, of Almyra High School in 1925. She surprised the Almyra community by marrying Ralph Sevier on May 4, just a few days before graduation. The marriage apparently lasted only a short time.

Miss Hillman was manager of Jump Cleaners in downtown Little Rock from 1942-1948. She also lived for a time in Redwood City, California. She was a member of the Grand Prairie Historical Association and a charter member of St. Luke's Methodist Church in Little Rock. Irene Florence Hillman died in Little Rock on December 12, 1995.
