Historical Information

Created between 1906 and 1908, the C. A. Ault Candy Company was a candy manufacturer in Little Rock owned by Charles A. Ault. The business was located in Little Rock at 716 Main Street (1908-1910), 215 E. Markham (1911-1913), and 308 E. Markham (1914-1916). The Little Rock city directory for 1917 was the first not to list the company since its initial appearance there in the 1908 edition.

Charles A. Ault was born in 1869 in Indiana. He lived with his family there and in Ohio before coming to Arkansas, where he married Ida Ware in 1896. Ault worked for A. Karcher and Company, a Little Rock candy manufacturer, as a traveling salesman in 1899. By 1903, Ault was listed as vice president of the company. In 1908 C. A. Ault Candy Company first appeared in the Little Rock city directory with Charles A. Ault listed as the owner. The company continued to appear until the 1917 directory, in which Charles A. Ault appeared, but was listed as a salesman for an unidentified company. Charles worked as a salesman and district manager for various companies until about 1935. Ida, Charles' wife, died in 1932. The couple had no children. Charles A. Ault remained in Little Rock until his death on January 14, 1947.
