This collection contains two letters written by Solon A. Rand while he served with the 2nd Ohio Cavalry.


Biographical Information

Solon A. Rand was born in 1835, at Madison, Lake County, Ohio, the son of Martin and Lucy Rand. He was a teacher before he enlisted in the army in August 1861. He went in as a corporal in the 2nd Ohio Cavalry, and he was a captain when he mustered out in September 1865. He returned to Madison, where he served as postmaster. He died on May 20, 1904.
