This collection contains photocopies of letters and other documents from several families of Clay County, Arkansas, during the nineteenth century. Several of the letters and other documents relate to the Civil War.


Biographical Information

The Knight and Mobley families lived in Clay County, Arkansas, during the nineteenth century. Albert Mobely visited California in 1852. During the Civil War he served in the 30th Arkansas Infantry and wrote to his wife in 1864 from the Camden area. John Knight corresponded with his wife Nancy while he was serving in Arkansas in 1864; he wrote to her from the Batesville area. Other papers in this collection relate to life in Clay County, Arkansas, both before and after the war.
