This collection contains a letter written by an unidentified member of the 15th Illinois Cavalry to his cousin.


Historical Information

The 15th Illinois Cavalry was organized at Camp Butler, Illinois, in December 1862. The regiment's companies were attached to infantry regiments who served at various locations in Mississippi and Alabama, until being assigned to the Department of Arkansas in December 1863, where they remained until the end of the war.
