Scope and Contents

This collection contains miscellaneous documents, photographs and memorabilia from the family of Earl Price Massey and his wife, Margaret Holt Massey. This includes correspondence and documents from the Massey family in Mississippi, and the Holt family in Howard County, Arkansas. The collection also contains material from schools and community affairs in Little Rock during the 1950s and 1960s, as well as documents and photographs from Battery B, 730th Field Artillery Battalion, 75th Infantry Division.


Biographical Information

(Earl) Price Massey was born April 4, 1907, to Ira and Virginia Massey of Ethel, Mississippi. After graduating from Mississippi State University, he became a representative for Business Men's Assurance Company of Kansas City, Missouri, and moved to Little Rock in the late 1930s. He served in Europe in World War II and returned to Little Rock, continuing his career with Business Men’s Assurance.

(Nancy) Margaret Holt, born May 22, 1917, was the daughter of Percy and Josephine Holt, of Nashville, Arkansas. A 1936 graduate of Nashville High School, she attended Draughan School of Business in Little Rock, and also began working for Business Men's Assurance. She and Price married on May 15, 1944.

The couple had two daughters, Caroline and Della. The couple was active in community and school affairs. The collection includes examples of material from these activities. Earl (who went by Price) participated in reunions of his World War II unit, Battery B, 730th Field Artillery Battalion, 75th Infantry Division. The collection also includes photographs, correspondence and documents relating to the reunions.

E. Price Massey died January 17, 1998, and Margaret died June 9, 2007.
