Biographical Information

Irving Ernest Greenberg was born on March 6, 1942, in Hope, Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in February 1967. His initial military service was stateside starting with officer and pilot training, followed by three and a half years as a jet instructor in Oklahoma. Greenberg served in Vietnam from August 1972 until the war's end in 1973 as an aircraft commander on an AC-119K Gunship with the 18th Special Operations Squadron. He was stationed at Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, Da Nang, Vietnam, Bien Hoa, Vietnam, and Tan Son Nhut, Vietnam. After the ceasefire, he ferried aircraft from Saigon (later Ho Chi Minh City) to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. Greenberg remained in the military for twenty years and later worked as a math teacher in Hot Springs, Arkansas, before retiring.
