This collection contains an oral history interview with John R. Simmons Jr. from March 2015, as well as, documents and photographs related to his military service.
Biographical Information
John R. Simmons Jr. was born on June 16, 1949, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1968 at the age of nineteen. He served one year in Vietnam as a company clerk with the 1st Aviation Brigade beginning in March 1969. The Brigade was responsible for forty percent of the Army's helicopters and one hundred percent of its fixed wing aircraft. Simmons spent time in Bien Hoa and Vung Tau in southern Vietnam.
