Scope and Content

This collection contains miscellaneous letters written by Arkansans or persons writing about Arkansas. A few folders contain more than one letter from or to the same person. Letters from the Civil War period are the only ones in which non-Arkansas correspondence is included. The letters in the collection cover a wide range of topics concerning social conditions, marriage, travel, military affairs, politics, legal matters, African Americans and Native Americans, and public health.

The geographic location of the author and the recipient of each letter is given when known.
