Scope and Contents Note

This collection contains the personal and professional papers of Little Rock social activist and feminist Mary I. "Beth" Cathey. Her collection documents the arts, environmental causes, journalism, politics, and women's issues. In Arkansas, Cathey was particularly interested in the Arkansas Women's History Month and the Arkansas Women's History Institute. This collection also contains a number of individual photographs, including images of Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Joycelyn Elders, Mary Steenburgen, and Gloria Steinem, among others.


Biographical Note

Mary I. "Beth" Cathey was the daughter of William A. Cathey and Marjorie Ball Cathey (1929-2011) and lived in North Little Rock and Little Rock from the early 1980s to the mid-1990s. During this time, Cathey worked as an editor for Ours (a feminist newspaper) and as a publicist in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Publications Department. She obtained her Bachlelor of Arts degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1991. Cathey died November 2007.
