Arrangement

The record books are arranged according to topics and size.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains six volumes of county records from Howard County, covering the years 1826 to 1914.

Historical Information

Howard County encompasses the Ouachita Mountains to the north and the Coastal Plain to the south. It was created in 1873 from portions of Pike, Polk, Hempstead, and Sevier counties.

These books were among historical records from southwest Arkansas collected by Lucille and Parker Westbrook and donated to the Butler Center in 2007. They appear to have come from the private collection of a former Howard County official.
