Scope and Contents

The collection is a part of an ongoing Butler Center for Arkansas Studies project titled FORGOTTEN: The Arkansas Korean War Project. This initiative seeks to record the experiences of Arkansas's Korean War veterans through collection of documents, photographs, and oral history interviews.

This collection contains an oral history interview with Jack L. Gilbert from September 27, 2011.


Biographical Information

Jack L. Gilbert was born in Little Rock, Ark., in 1930 and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 at the age twenty. He served in the Korean War for approximately ten months as a corporal in the 213th Field Artillery Battalion. For a brief period of time near the end of his service he was also attached to an engineer company. While in the 213th Field Artillery Gilbert served as a cannoneer and ammunition corporal. Following his discharge from the service, Gilbert returned to Arkansas.
