This collection contains a scrapbook and memorabilia related to the 50th reunion of the North Little Rock High School graduating class of 1946.


Biographical Information

This collection consists of one scrapbook and two additional items collected by Gaylord M. Northrop on the occasion of the reunion of the North Little Rock High School graduating class of 1946; Northrop was one of the graduates.The scrapbook contains unidentified photographs of reunion events of September 27-28, 1996. It also contains a reunion program. The event held the evening of September 27th took place at the Elks Pavilion Park. The event held on September 28th took place at North Little Rock High School; North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Henry Hays addressed the group. There is also a name tag for Gaylord Northrop and a newspaper article about the event from the October 10, 1996 issue of The Times of North Little Rock.

Gaylord M. Northrop was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas, on December 15, 1928, and died in Sherwood, Arkansas, on October 1, 2004. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he served until 1948. Northrop received his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and his Master's degree and Doctorate in Engineering from Yale University. Before returning to Arkansas in 1986 to teach at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, he worked for the Rand Corporation, the Center for Environment and Man, as a professor at the Hartford Graduate Center and at the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut. He retired from UALR in 1997 as an Emeritus Associate Professor of the Graduate Institute of Technology. Northrop was also a student of Arkansas's involvement in the Civil War, served as president of the Arkansas Academy of Electrical Engineers, and was active in the Rotary Club of Little Rock.
