Biographical Information

Professionally, Alexander C. "Clyde" McGinnis worked as area supervisor of the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA), as a reporter, and finally as a real estate broker. In addition, he was widely known as an historian, a founder of the Independence County Historical Society, and editor for the thirty years of the Society's journal, the Independence County Chronicle.

McGinnis was born June 28, 1916, to Albert Sidney and Ethel Bland McGinnis of Larue in Benton County, Ark. He attended high school in Rogers, Ark., attended college briefly at Arkansas Tech, and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1940.

Following graduation, McGinnis moved to Harrison, Ark., where he worked for the Farm Credit Administration. He married Marian Liles of Springdale, Ark., on April 12, 1941, and the couple had one child. McGinnis enlisted in the Army on September 4, 1942, and served in Europe until his discharge in November 1945. He returned to active service for one year during the Korean War.

After the war, McGinnis was transferred from Harrison to Batesville to be the supervisor of the FmHA of Independence County. In 1975 he became a news writer for the Batesville Daily Guard. In 1980 he established McGinnis and Associates Real Estate, retiring in 1997.
