Scope and Contents

The collection is a part of an ongoing Butler Center for Arkansas Studies project titled FORGOTTEN: The Arkansas Korean War Project. This initiative seeks to record the experiences of Arkansas's Korean War veterans through collection of documents, photographs, and oral history interviews. This collection contains an oral history interview with Lawrence Clyde Chaney from August 10, 2009, as well as photographs and documents pertinent to his military service.


Biographical Information

Lawrence Clyde Chaney was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1930 and enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1947 at the age of seventeen. After graduating high school, he worked for the Air National Guard as a supply clerk at Adams Field in Little Rock, Ark. Chaney was called to active duty in October of 1950. After training at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, he was sent to Korea in the summer of 1951 as a technical sergeant with the 154th Fighter Bomber Squadron for a total of twenty-one months of service. During this Korean War service, Chaney continued his supply duties while stationed at Itazuke Air Base in Japan and the K-2 Air Base in Taegu, Korea. He was later transferred to a radio relay outfit in Seoul before returning to the United States in July of 1952. Chaney currently lives in Fort Smith.
