Historical Information

The First Baptist Church (formally Star City Missionary Baptist) was organized in Star City (Lincoln), Arkansas, in November 1873 with twenty-five chartered members and Rev. Edison Haywood Owen as the first pastor. It was established only two short years after the town and county were formed in 1871 (the town later incorporated in 1876). The early minutes that recorded the church's organization burned in 1918 when a house fire destroyed the home of J. C. Atkinson who had served as clerk.

First Baptist Church joined the Friendship Association in 1874 and the Harmony Association in 1918. The church grew from having services once a month when established to full time in the early 1930s, and changed its name to First Baptist in 1942.
