Scope and Contents

This collection is largely comprised of correspondence between Edward Curtis Jones and his wife Jessie Colclasure Jones while Jones served during World War I. It contains additional correspondence from other members of his family and his friends and some memorabilia Jones collected while in France and Germany.


Biographical Information

Edward Curtis Jones was born August 25, 1889, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Arthur Clifton Jones and Georgia A. Jackson Jones. He was the oldest of three brothers (Dudley Emerson Jones and Arthur Jackson Jones). The family later moved to Little Rock, where Curtis graduated from Little Rock High School in 1908. He married Jessie M. Colclasure. After registering for the World War I draft, he served in Europe as part of the 87th Division in the 312th Engineers.

After returning from Europe, Jones and his wife had one son, Edward Curtis Jones Jr. who was born in 1921. By 1930, the family was living in Memphis, Tennessee, where Jones died in 1960.
