Scope and Contents

The collection is a part of an ongoing Butler Center for Arkansas Studies project titled FORGOTTEN: The Arkansas Korean War Project. This initiative seeks to record the experiences of Arkansas's Korean War veterans through collection of documents, photographs, and oral history interviews.

This collection contains documents related to the military service of Gus Taylor Jr.


Biographical Information

Gus "Zack" Taylor Jr. was born in Jacksonville, Arkansas, in 1930. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948 at the age of eighteen and served for fourteen months in Okinawa, Japan. Taylor served in the Korean War beginning in July 1950 as a corporal with E Company, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was discharged in April 1955. Taylor passed away on April 11, 1979, and is buried at the Bayou Meto Cemetery in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
