Scope and Contents

The collection is a part of an ongoing Butler Center for Arkansas Studies project titled FORGOTTEN: The Arkansas Korean War Project. This initiative seeks to record the experiences of Arkansas's Korean War veterans through collection of documents, photographs, and oral history interviews.

This collection contains an oral history interview with Ronald H. Van Buren from August 25, 2008 as well as photographs and documents pertinent to his military service.


Biographical Note

Ronald H. Van Buren was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1930, and enlisted in the Army in 1948, at the age of eighteen. He was stationed with the 5th Armored Division at Fort Chaffee near Fort Smith, Arkansas before being transferred to Japan with the 24th Infantry Division. Van Buren served in the Korean War for eleven months beginning in September of 1950. He passed away on August 20, 2009.
