Scope and Contents

The collection is a part of an ongoing Butler Center for Arkansas Studies project titled FORGOTTEN: The Arkansas Korean War Project. This initiative seeks to record the experiences of Arkansas's Korean War veterans through collection of documents, photographs, and oral history interviews. This collection contains an oral history interview with Carl E. Baskin from March 17, 2010, as well as photograph related to his military service.


Biographical Information

Carl Edward "Ed" Baskin was born in Graysonia, Arkansas, in 1919. He was an ROTC cadet while in college and received his diploma, a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, and orders for active duty all on June 1, 1951. After training, Baskin served in the Korean War for one year beginning in August 1952, with G Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Regiment, 3rd Army Infantry Division. Baskin was platoon leader of approximately fifty troops, half South Korean and Puerto Rican and half American. He participated in action north of the 38th parallel. His main duties included building and manning fixed fortifications on the Main Line of Resistance. For the last six months of his time in Korea, he served as executive officer of F Company. Baskin currently lives in Little Rock, Arkansas.
