Scope and Contents

The collection is a part of an ongoing Butler Center for Arkansas Studies project titled FORGOTTEN: The Arkansas Korean War Project. This initiative seeks to record the experiences of Arkansas's Korean War veterans through collection of documents, photographs, and oral history interviews.

This collection contains documents and photographs related to the military service of William C. Reed.


Biographical Information

William C. "Bill" Reed was born in Watsonville, California, in 1931. He graduated from high school in Mena, Arkansas, in 1949, before joining the National Guard in 1950, at the age of eighteen. After the federalization of his unit with the outbreak of war, Reed traveled to Fort Hood for advanced training. He served in the Korean War for one year beginning in February 1951, with the Service Battery, 937th Field Artillery Battalion. Bill Reed died on April 22, 2012. This collection was compiled after his death by his sister, Margarett "Margo" Kimp.
