Scope and Contents

The collection is a part of an ongoing Butler Center for Arkansas Studies project titled FORGOTTEN: The Arkansas Korean War Project. This initiative seeks to record the experiences of Arkansas's Korean War veterans through collection of documents, photographs, and oral history interviews.

This collection contains an oral history interview with Richard B. Homard from September 25, 2009, as well as photographs and documents related to his military service.


Biographical Information

Richard B. Homard was born in Kensett, Arkansas, in 1927. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1945 at the age of seventeen and served until August 1946. In August 1950 at the age of twenty-three, he enlisted in the Arkansas Army National Guard. Homard served one year in the Korean War beginning in January 1951 as a sergeant with the Headquarters Battery, 936th Field Artillery Battalion. His duties as radio repair section chief included maintaining good radio communication and training other soldiers in radio repair. The unit saw a great deal of service in the “Iron Triangle” area, often in support of other United Nations forces. Homard currently lives in Little Rock.
