Biographical Information

Albert C. Sebourn was born in Mountainburg, Arkansas, on December 2, 1912. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1929 and served for six years before being discharged. He re-enlisted in the Army in 1941. Sebourn was appointed a second lieutenant in 1943 and served as a liaison pilot during World War II. Following the United States’s entry into the Korean War, Sebourn, now a captain, was placed in command of the 2nd Helicopter Detachment, which was an air evacuation unit and the Army’s first helicopter command to ever deploy to a war-zone. While in Korea, Sebourn designed an evacuation pod that was used to transport patients. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions at Chang-to in 1951.
