Biographical Information

Lyman Richardson, the son of Origen and Sarah, was born June 6, 1834, in Pontiac, Michigan. Following graduation from the University of Michigan, he followed his family to Omaha, Nebraska, where he studied law. Upon enlistment in July 1862, he was elected second lieutenant of Company F, 1st Nebraska Cavalry.

Richardson served through the duration of the war, eventually joining the staff of Gen. Frederick Steele at Little Rock. At the time the documents in this collection were generated, Richardson was in the quartermaster's office and was in charge of river and railroad transportation. He remained in Little Rock for three years following the war. After his return to Omaha, he became part owner and publisher of the Omaha Herald. After retirement, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland. He died in 1906.
