This collection contains quartermaster documents dated January-March 1864 reporting stores expended or lost in action by Company D, 1st Nebraska Cavalry.

Historical Information

The 1st Nebraska Infantry was mustered in at Omaha, Nebraska, during June and July 1861. On October 11, 1863, they became mounted infantry, and on November 6, 1863, the unit's designation was changed to the 1st Nebraska Cavalry.

The regiment was stationed for a time at Cape Girardeau in southeast Missouri, and moved to Batesville, Ark., in November and December 1863. The actions recorded in this collection took place in the Batesville area in January and February 1864. One of the documents relates to the foraging party that was attacked in the skirmish at Waugh's Farm on February 19, 1864.
