Biographical Information

The author of this letter is not identified. He is a Union soldier and a member of a regiment that is part of the Second Brigade, Third Division, Sixteenth Army Corps. While the commanders are stationed in Memphis, his unit is stationed in Helena, Arkansas, subject to call as needed. It is probable that the soldier is a German immigrant, as he writes in a script only used in Germany and by native German speakers.
