Scope and Contents

The collection is a part of an ongoing Butler Center for Arkansas Studies project titled FORGOTTEN: The Arkansas Korean War Project. This initiative seeks to record the experiences of Arkansas's Korean War veterans through collection of documents, photographs, and oral history interviews.

This collection contains an oral history interview with William C. Spigner from July 1, 2010, as well as documents and photographs related to his military service.


Biographical Information

William C. "Arkie" Spigner was born in Mineral Springs, Arkansas, in 1930, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 at the age of twenty-one. He served in the Korean War for ten months as a member of F Company, 5th Regimental Combat Team. Spigner's duties included serving as a BAR man, squad leader, and truck driver. He was wounded in action on October 27, 1952, while defending a position on the front lines. Spigner currently lives in Nashville, Arkansas.
